1/0 hook
A 1/0 is inside the hook size window for 10 species the Rig Studio models (Smallmouth Bass, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Largemouth Bass, Bonefish, Walleye, Channel Catfish, Steelhead, Northern Pike and Common Carp). One stock size smaller is size 1, one larger is 2/0.

What fish a 1/0 hook is for
Every species whose window includes 1/0, lightest fish first. The wire floor is the studio's other hook check: a hook rated under 1.2× the fish's top typical weight is flagged. The last column lists the tie-on hooks we catalog in 1/0 that clear it.
One or two sizes off: what the studio says
Fish whose window ends just short of 1/0. Put a 1/0 on one of these in the builder and it raises a warning, not an error, with a one-click fix to the nearest edge of the window. A hook a size off still catches fish; it just pins fewer of them.

Hooks we catalog in 1/0
Each pattern whose printed size range includes 1/0. Wire is relative to standard gauge; "holds" is the pull the maker rates it to before the wire opens. The last column counts the fish above that this hook clears both checks for.

What fish is a 1/0 hook for?
Smallmouth Bass, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Largemouth Bass, Bonefish, Walleye, Channel Catfish, Steelhead, Northern Pike and Common Carp. Those are the species whose working hook window includes 1/0. It is the smallest size we accept for Flounder, Channel Catfish and Northern Pike. It is the largest we accept for Walleye. Size the hook to the bait as well as the fish: the window is where a hook clears the jaw without swamping the mouth.
Is a 1/0 hook bigger than a size 1?
Yes. Aught sizes grow as the number climbs, so 1/0 is larger than #1 and smaller than 2/0. 1/0 is the step right after #1, where the two scales meet.
How big is a 1/0 hook in millimetres or inches?
We do not print a figure, because there is no standard one. Hook sizes are not tied to a length or gap measurement, so a 1/0 from one maker can differ visibly from another's, and patterns differ more than makers do: a long-shank Aberdeen and a short octopus of the same printed size are not the same hook. Compare a new pack against a hook you already know.
Which hook pattern should I buy in 1/0?
7 hooks we catalog come in 1/0: Mustad Demon Perfect Circle (circle, rated 90 lb); Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp Circle Sea (circle, rated 70 lb); Mustad O'Shaughnessy Siwash (siwash, rated 65 lb); Gamakatsu Superline EWG Worm Hook (ewg, rated 60 lb); Owner Mutu Light Circle (circle, rated 45 lb); Gamakatsu Octopus Hook (octopus, rated 30 lb); Owner Mosquito Light Hook (octopus, rated 14 lb). Pick by technique: circle for bait soaked on a tight line; hooks the jaw hinge without a hookset; siwash for single-hook swap on spoons and spinners for salmon and steelhead; EWG for texas-rigged soft plastics; octopus for live bait, drop-shot, and baits that have to sit naturally.
