Fishing rigs by species and water

Pick the fish and the water. Each cell below is a complete rig our solver built from the catalog: the cheapest combination of hook, line, leader, weight, rod and reel that the compatibility engine passes with no errors. Every page shows each check with the two numbers and the threshold between them, so you can see why the rig is built the way it is. Looking for a named rig instead? Texas, Carolina, drop shot, three-way and the rest are solved the same way.

How the solver picks a rig

The solver fills one stage at a time, hook first, keeping the best few dozen partial builds at each step, then swaps single parts and pairs of parts (rod with reel, rod with sinker) until nothing improves. Every candidate is scored by the engine the studio runs: fewest errors first, then fewest warnings, then lowest street price. It never overrides a check and it has no list of favourite products. Add a part to the catalog and the next build can pick it.

A rig has to put something on the line that loads the rod. The engine skips its casting checks when nothing is chosen, because in the studio that means "not picked yet"; the solver treats an empty terminal end as a failure instead.

Pairings come from where each fish is actually targeted, not just matching water type. A muskie and a farm pond are both fresh water; we do not publish that rig.

Cheapest rig: Smallmouth Bass in Clear Reservoir at ~$113. Most expensive: Muskellunge in Weedy Lake at ~$441. 7 rigs keep a warning the catalog cannot clear yet. Each page says which and why:
