Hooks

We check point sharpness (the fingernail-drag test), wire strength under a spring scale, gap and bite geometry, corrosion resistance after saltwater exposure, and real hookup ratios on the water across bait and artificials.

Knots

We tie each knot the way we teach it, then pull it to failure against a scale to see whether it breaks at the knot or the line — and how much of the line's rated strength it retains. Consistency matters as much as peak strength.

Line

We compare diameter-to-strength, stretch, abrasion resistance, memory, casting distance, and knot-holding across braid, monofilament, and fluorocarbon in the conditions each is built for.
