Weight

Gets you down, holds you there, or ruins the presentation.

terminaloptional stage7 parts

Weight is a depth-and-current problem. Too little and your bait never reaches the fish; too much and it looks like a rock. Tungsten is denser than lead, so the same weight is physically smaller and transmits bottom feel far better.

Every option, with the tradeoff

The table says what each part is. This says what it costs you to choose it.

weight.terminalbudget

Water Gremlin Removable Split Shot

Pinch-on weight with ears you squeeze to reopen. The fastest way to add or remove a tiny amount of weight without cutting the rig apart.

tradeoff Crimping hard damages light line at the pinch point. On 4 lb and under, retie below the shot after a few moves.

weight.terminalbudget

Bullet Weights Lead Bullet Worm Weights

The Texas rig weight. Slides on the line ahead of the hook, noses through cover, and costs almost nothing when you break one off.

tradeoff Lead is soft and bulky for its weight, and banned in some waters. Feel through lead is noticeably worse than tungsten.

weight.terminalpremium

Reins Tungsten Flipping Weight

Tungsten is roughly 1.7× denser than lead, so the same ounce is a much smaller package that slips through grass and telegraphs bottom composition.

tradeoff Three times the price. On open sand where feel does not matter, lead is doing the identical job for a third of the cost.

weight.terminalbudget

Bullet Weights Egg Sinkers

A rounded slip sinker for Carolina rigs and bait fishing. Line runs free through it, so a taking fish feels no weight before you come tight.

tradeoff Rolls in current — on a real river it walks downstream and tangles the rig behind it. Use a bank or pyramid there instead.

weight.terminalvalue

South Bend Pyramid Surf Sinkers

Flat-faced pyramid that digs into sand and stays put while the surf sweeps past. Standard on any beach with real longshore current.

tradeoff It anchors on purpose, which means it also anchors in rock. On a jetty you want something that breaks free — go bank or breakaway.

weight.terminalvalue

Eagle Claw Bank Sinkers

Teardrop weight with a molded eye. Slides over river rock instead of wedging into it, which is exactly what you want in heavy current.

tradeoff It does not hold like a pyramid. In a serious current you will use a heavier bank than you would a pyramid to sit in the same spot.

weight.terminalpremium

VMC Tungsten Drop Shot Weight

Cylindrical tungsten with a line-gripping swivel clip — no knot needed, and it releases the line rather than snapping off when it wedges.

tradeoff The pinch-clip lets go under hard load by design. Great for saving rigs, occasionally annoying when a big fish makes it slip.
