Beads
Knot armour, spacers, and noise.
A bead between a sliding weight and your knot stops the weight hammering the connection to death. Glass beads click against brass and call fish in stained water. The only hard rule: the bore has to clear your line.

Every option, with the tradeoff
The table says what each part is. This says what it costs you to choose it.
Danielson Red Glass Rattle Beads
Glass clicks against a brass weight and puts sound into stained water. Also protects your knot from the sliding sinker hammering it.
tradeoff Glass chips and can cut light line at the bore edge. On anything under 8 lb, use plastic instead.
Danielson Plastic Bead Assortment
Cheap, soft, and available in every size. The everyday spacer and knot protector — buy the big box once and stop thinking about it.
tradeoff No sound, no flash. Purely functional. If you want attraction in muddy water, spend the extra dollar on glass.
TroutBeads Soft Egg Beads
Pegged two inches above a bare hook, these imitate a drifting salmon egg. The dominant steelhead and trout presentation on egg-drop rivers.
tradeoff Only works with a pegged bead and a short hook lead. Fished as a normal spacer it does nothing at all.
Bass Pro Tackle Brass & Glass Clacker Set
Matched brass weight and glass bead, sold together. This is the classic Carolina-rig noise-maker — the brass rings the glass on every drag.
tradeoff Brass is less dense than lead or tungsten, so you carry a physically bigger weight for the same ounces.
Thill Bobber Stops & Beads
The other half of a slip float. The stop sets your depth anywhere on the spool; the bead keeps the stop from pulling through the float.
tradeoff Nothing else does this job. If you bought a slip float and skipped these, your float does not slip.
